I think the main problem was one of size. By the way, I really miss my CF cards, although that's because my SD card reader sucks. It's a 12 in 1 from Addonics, and I have to wiggle the card to get a connection. My Microtech CF card reader works flawlessly, and it's much faster. I've never damaged a CF card or connection and can't say I know anyone who has. Both readers are DVD by the way, so speed is not just a matter of the connection.
