I finally got it working. Seems there's a little button on the bottom of the flash that is labeled M C S, where the flash can be changed from master to control or slave. The print in the LED window is so tiny my old eyes missed it. I didn't have it set on slave. The Pentax manual doesn't make that clear. In fact, I don't think it mentions it.
