The only thing I would add to the other advice is that I dismantle the 
little "spring clip thingy" and use the adapter without it. I find that the 
friction holding the adapter to the lens is greater than that between the 
adapter and the camera body, so the adapter stays on the lens and de-mounts 
the same way any K-mount lens would. However, it may be worth drilling a 
small recess in the back of the lens casing so that the small pin that locks 
a K-mount lens on to the body can also function with the adapter. If you 
have a look at the set up you will see what I mean.

I have two M42 lenses but only K-mount bodies, so I find it more convenient 
to leave the lenses set up as K-mounts than to take the adapter on and off 
the body - particularly when changing lenses in the field.
