I use a ball head on mine mainly for (a) easier verticals and (b) when
I'm on hills and need the "base orientation" to be significantly tilted
w.r.t. the longitudinal axis of the 'pod.  When I'm using a 'pod, I'm
almost always panning a long lens at somewhere around f/13, too.  That
means I have to be careful about centers of rotation and curvature.  And
it rarely works out perfectly.  Some of the "barrel of focus" effects
can be quite intriguing.
