Dave, I am not that handy, not at all.

I will probably use an old tooth brush and canned air as was
suggested. Suddenly the solution used by Slick in the tripod that I
have (screw-driven locks) does not sound all that silly.

The leg wasn't too expensive, so that if it serves me for a year - I'd
be satisfied. Then I will replace it and of course I'll know what to
look out for.
