I'm glad you wrote "(more or less) normal people'. ;-) To my way of thinking, most people already assume that one can take good pictures with any given brand or model of camera... even disposables, hence their purchase.
I'm not saying the gallery is not a worthwhile exercise. But, if the intent is to generate interest and sales in Pentax as a brand, then I think they need to splash their name around all over the place in a very big way. I personally wouldn't base my camera buying decision based on the fact that a corporate website had a gallery of photos that I enjoyed... maybe some would.
