And as such, encompasses a wide range of people with different needs,
budgets, values, experience, and interests.  This is starting to remind me
of the HDTV thread a while back.  Can't you get it through your thick skull
that not everyone can afford or even want the best.

And what hubris you have telling me what I can afford and can't afford. 
Were you to know my situation you'd take up a collection for me.  Further,
I have a recent machine and a monitor capable of generating the higher
resolution, but I like the resolution at which I work.  It's comfortable
for my eyes and style, and I've no need/desire to use a higher resolution
right now.  Web images are a secondary concern for me.  I'm more concerned
with prints, which I view in real life.
