Given the volumes of images - you gotta do what you gotta do... > > Last year was the contest's first Digital year and to my surprise (and > I think to Doug's as well), the judging process was significantly > easier than it had been with slides. Digital projections certain seem to go more smoothly - though there were the complaints about the projector over-saturating the images and pushing the contrast too high (I have no idea what grade or quality of projector was used.) But - the slides had dust specks on them and the prints were small and had glare spots... so nothing is perfect. > My philosophy is to give a lot of weight to that "blink" moment when > you first see an image and it either grabs you or it doesn't. I tend to agree with that except that I find the 'blink' moment to ultimately wear thin. It's sorta like the sizzle and steak thing - the sizzle is good, the steak is better, they are usually not mutually exclusive... > You didn't mention if you had any discussions with the other judges > during judging. We had brief discussions going from the top handful down to the top three, in particular in terms of ranking 1,2, and 3. > > It's an interesting process. I'll be looking forward to seeing how it works out at GFM this year. - MCC -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Mark Cassino Photography Kalamazoo, Michigan www.markcassino.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
