True. But a lot of the cyclists here seem to like swerving from one side of the lane to the other, with no discernible reason or pattern. If I drove like that I'd be pulled over and breath tested. I'm pretty good at predicting what the cars ahead of me are going to do. Cyclists leave me befuddled at times. > > > > It also bugs the shit out of me when I get stuck behind a bunch of > > Tour de France wannabes riding 4 abreast, having a nice chat and > > blocking half the effing lane. > > Perfectly legal. Pass them like you would a car in that lane. With the very narrow & busy roads around here, finding a break in the oncoming traffic to pass can take a while. I'd prefer if they'd ride single file. > Except that Cyclists (even 1) have the full right to block the lane, > they have the same right to it that you do. The fact that they're > willing to ride 4 abreast in one lane is irrelevant. yeah, traffic laws > need to be enforced more against cyclists (who are notorious for > ignoring certain things, like stop signs) but that doesn't change the > fact that they have full right to the lane. It's no about rights, it's about bone headed & discourteous behavior. I know when a car is going to switch lanes or pull out in front of me because cars have indicators and the majority of drivers use them. Very few cyclists indicate, and generally the only time you know what they're going to do is after they've done it. My comment about cyclists not being allowed on the roads was a bit exaggerated. But I really wish they could observe road rules as they are supposed to. I think it stems from the fact that drivers need a licence & at least some form of education on the road rules (basic & brief as it may be). But anyone can buy a bike & ride it on the road. The local cyclists make me very, very nervous when I get near them. Cheers, Dave -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
