A "portable storage device" is not just an external hard drive. It is  
typically something self-powered with input ports for flash memory  
cards, software to transfer the contents of the memory cards to the  
drive, and other ports which connect to a host computer for  
transferring the files there as well. They can include displays  
indicating file operations, number of files contained, capacity, and/ 
or display the images.

I'm not familiar with the Hyperdrive PSD specifically. I use the  
Epson P2000, also with 40Gbytes of storage, because it has a large,  
clear display for reviewing the photos. I've been very satisfied with  
its performance and utility.

I think the Hyperdrives are re-branded CompactDrive units. The  
CompactDrive PD70X had a good reputation overall.
