I think you'll find that the CRT will simply sync to the 1600x1200
analogue signal, it can't actually resolve it. My CRT is a top line
22" and has real resolution of no more than 1600x1200 pixels though it
can display a signal of up to 2048x1536 pixels. Consumer TFT displays
are now available with up to 2560x1600 pixel resolution.
