I agree, no such thing as lightning proof. Our local power company has an additional option. The offer a whole house surge protector that installs at the electric service entry point. It also has connections for the cable tv and telephone services.
As frosting on the cake it includes an insurance policy for lightning damage on anything that gets fried. At one point damage from direct strikes was excluded.
