You, know what? For all the scenery here in the mountains, there is not much
like that. In Boone there are some college bars, nothing but beer and wine
served, and no scenery. In Blowing Rock is one bar with scenery, one fake yuppy
English pub, and a couple of dance joints. At least Blowing Rock has mixed
drinks allowed. Despite this county being 90% outsiders it is still kind of a
backwards area. I do miss the neighborhood bars in the north, they are the
American equivalent of your local pubs, where you can go and meet with friends,
make new acquaintances, and conversation is the main entertainment. I guess,
here in the south church socials were the thing instead; the trouble with them
is they tend to be exclusionary.
