I'll look at these.

I realize that just processing the PRF file with the settings the PPL
opens with is going to produce a JPG just like the in-camera version. I
just can't seem to make it look any better by fiddling with the other
controls. I've read a bit about manipulating the tonal curve to maximize
the dynamic range, etc., and I've been experimenting with that. Simply
put, I'm getting images that are different but not (to my eye)
significantly better. I certainly can't seem to sharpen them very much
in PPL. I don't automatically sharpen every image, but I was trying to
just to figure out how and I want unable to produce the classic over
sharpened Rebel look, which I know should be possible.

The best thing might be to just use PS CS3. I've used that to correct
some color balance issues from the *ist D I have at the office and the
results are amazing. I'll just have to get the K10D files in here as
well.

I just have all this work that keeps interfering with my hobby <vbg>.

Forgot to mention before:

The basics of digital RAW format and how it differs from JPEG can be
found in a pair of white papers on the Adobe website, "Understanding
digital raw capture" and "Linear gamma", both written by Bruce
Fraser. Being short white papers, they're not quite as complete as
the information presented in his book but they're still a good step
to understanding.

You can download them from this page:
