I got my new computer a week ago but, life being that complex thing it is, didn't have time to start setting it up until two days ago. For a while I debated just copying everything, OS and all, from the old computer and doing an OS upgrade. But I eventually decided to start from a clean install, install all the apps I need (and *only* the apps I need) and just copying the data files. Glad I went that route.
CPU, memory and various system busses are all faster, of course, but I think the fast SATA hard drives and dual-core processor probably make the biggest difference. Big-ass image files load much quicker now and complex multi-tasking seems to stress the system less :) Moreover, I was finally able to load Lightroom on my desktop machine! It's a *much* more satisfying experience on a big monitor with a good mouse and full-size keyboard, let me tell ya! And it positively flies on this machine. Veeeery nice. Still a few more apps to load and "personalization" tasks to complete, but it's nice to have it operational.
