There are only marginal improvements in image quality at scan  
resolutions much greater than 4000 ppi or so unless you are  using  
the highest actuance B&W film and processing techniques.

A 6x7 frame (~58 x 67 mm) scanned at 4000 ppi renders a 9134x10551  
pixel image, that's 125 Mpixels. You might find such a high density  
scan a touch unwieldy to edit unless you have a fairly high-powered  
cpu and LOTS of storage and RAM.
