Frank, you can add an artifical "grain" pattern to mask the noise. 
(There are fancier ways of doing it but I just lay it on top of the base 
image in photoshop adjust the opacity until it's what I'm looking for, 
and sometimes play with the blending options). I find that helps a lot.
