No one here says it would be easier. Further, no one cares if you choose to hand hold because you find it easier. That's your business.
I question the idea that it's "...almost impossible to frame correctly when using a tripod." ... and shooting a train was your example. This may be true for you and/or with the gear with which you tried it, but a tripod, as in all tripods, seems pretty broad. I have an excellent Gitzo pan head for use with my movie camera. Works pretty damn good. Control is excellent. I've never put any of my Pentax gear on it though.
