Tim,
I just checked and I guess it is part optical illusion.
To me, it looks like the bird's beak is 1 cm ahead of itself in the reflection.
I know this isn't true, I just checked with Paint Shop Pro.
I will say that the elbow in the bottom wing's reflection looks 1 cm ahead.
Perhaps this is because the white part in the real wing fades into the sky.
