Any serious (home computer) system gets bogged down by use. As we are advised to change the oil and lube the chassis in our automobiles, we ought to format (and partition our HDD at the same time) our computers every so often, say every three or four months; give it the computer equivalent of an "oil and lube" job? A reformat and reinstalling your OS sure as hell speeds up Windows, maybe not to "fresh as new" OEM specs, but surely faster in that you've dumped Megabytes (now Gigabytes) of resourses-hungry trash off you HDD.
