Exactly my opinion too.  I won't buy an operating system upgrade. It's far
easier to buy a new machine, especially if I still need all the old stuff to
work on the old machine.  Of course this will eventually help the
construction trade because a larger house with more than one computer room
is needed. :-)  They got me!

I managed to get NT4 server and workstation installed on my HP desktop about
a year ago.  I didn't really need them but I was doing some self-study with
SQL Server. Both are good except, the modem no longer works with NT.  Since
I'd like to use my PIII 500 for photography stuff, be able to access the
web, and play an occasional game that's not over 3 years old, I'll probably
slap in the recovery CD and go back to the pre-installed version of Win 98.
