When I'm working on a tripod, the Panasonic L1's Live View makes this a piece of cake: both rule of thirds and fine grid overlays are available on the LCD at the press of a button.
I use a bubble level in the hot shoe too, but sometimes it is much much easier to have the overlay and a visual reference.
