For 13 years, one of the things I did as a matter of course, sideline to my job at Apple, was install and test new versions of the operating system. I also did this at Sun Microsystems for a couple of years. My experience is that operating system installations/upgrades/ etc on any platform are always risky until enough information has been acquired from user testing in the field.
NEVER install an operating system without having a backup of all your data, at very least. For my own use, I usually clone the entire startup disk to an external drive, test that it boots identically to the main drive, then disconnect it and start from there when I do a major OS upgrade. With *any* system. Some comments from the Lightroom team are important to know with regard to Leopard ... http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2007/10/ lightroom_12_and_leopard.html Based on this information, I'll wait until Adobe announces the next version of Lightroom before I do any installation of Leopard. Lightroom is now essential to my work and I won't risk an interruption. I'll test a Leopard install on my laptop prior to doing any installation on the desktop system as well.
