No, he should stick with the Mac. But even with a Mac, don't upgrade to a new OS until the inevitable gremlins have been exorcised! The cost/benefit ratio is just weighted too heavily on the cost side. I didn't move from System 9 until they had gotten up to 10.3.x, didn't move to 10.4 until they had reached version 10.4.5. The current version, 10.4.11, is doing just fine.
