Indeed. I use similar convention. I rename all PEF files from _IGPxxxx.PEF to IGP0xxxx.PEF so that hopefully I will have five digit file count from K10D. Then I sort them to folders like "2007-12-18 - Tel Aviv" or "2007-12-18 - Jerusalem Botanical Garden". I then sort them in more elaborate tree structure later from within LR. I don't convert from PEF to DNG.
The only comment I'd like to make on Bob's system is that 2007-18-12 (yyyy-dd-mm) seems less advantageous to me than 2007-12-18 (yyyy-mm-dd) simply due the way it will appear when sorted by the name.
