Bob,
I'm in Chicagoland too, up at Gurnee. After going down to the lake near
the Waukegan nuke plant, I ended up driving to a "dark sky" sight the Adler
Planetarium folks use up near the Illinois/Wisconsin border at Caledonia, a
little past Harvard. The drive up was through pea soup fog, at times I had
to drive at 20 mph, but when I was within a mile of the place suddenly it
all cleared up - I guess they're on slightly higher ground than the
surrounding area. I had about an hour's viewing, and then at 2:30AM the
cloud started rolling in and stayed that way for the rest of the night - so
you didn't miss too much.
I used my MZ-5, ASA 400 of some sort and a Sigma 15-30mm set to 15mm
which another Bob (Rapp, I think) inadvertently enabled me on.
I don't hold out too much hope for the results, but we'll see what comes
out! If you want the address of the "dark sky" sight for future reference,
it's:
Angelic Organics Farm
1547 Rockton Rd,
Caledonia, IL 61011
It was mentioned out on the Adler Planetarium website.
Richard.

Weather here in Chicago was a bummer too!
It is positively balmy for November at 65-70 degrees F.
This is at least 20 degrees F higher than average.
But, along with the warm air has come moisture and fog.
There was no sky visible here last night, only fog below the street lights.
Regards, Bob S.
