Hi Tom,

Six 10-ohm resistors wired in series and powered by 12VDC would give a
2.4-watt heater. Probably the cheapest way to power such a gadget would be
one of those small lead-acid (?) batteries used in children's electric
ride-in cars -- Mattel Power Wheels and such. A car or motorcycle battery
would work if you couldn't find one of these toy batteries.

I've never heard of anyone taking a portable electric hairdryer to their
lenses during cold winter night photography, but there are some telescope
nuts who are known to do this. Probably even a 12V fan (like a computer
case fan) blowing on the lens would help a lot.

Now I have to go back to sulking about the crappy overcast weather which
moved in here overnight. Probably won't be any clear skies again for a few
days. Glad that Saturday night and Sunday morning were clear!

More later,
Bill
