The main problem with the Kendrick is the amount of residual heated air in
the area of the objective. People in the astro community often mention one
of my quotes about Kendrick. "Their products are $50 solutions to $5
problems". He saw a problem and came up with an expensive way to fix it is a
way to paraphrase it.
Personally I find a long dew shield is a better solution. And you can make
one out of cardboard if you want to. However in the case of my MF fisheye
you can't use those or you vignette the field. So a portable air blower
makes more sense, especially since they sell for only $15.

Hi Kent,

Yeah, what some folks won't do to keep their corrector plates dry. :-) I
see the Kendrick heaters advertised quite a bit (the ones with the heating
elements that look like tape and wrap around the front of the scope tube),
but I don't recall seeing the hot-air blower types in astronomy magazine
ads. Maybe they're just not as popular -- large current draw, risk of
localized overheating, etc? Don't know for sure. Does your place stock the
heating-tape-style heaters? What do these typically sell for, and how does
the price compare with the hot-air types? (I think Orion sells the
heating-tape style in various sizes for around $40 each.) I've never seen
either of these advertised in photography magazines, but it seems like it
might be useful, even to those who don't do astrophotography.
