Obviously. A helmet is designed to reduce acceleration and distribute point impact loads on your skull and brain. That they work to reduce head injuries has been well documented by every credible independent insurance, medical, and racing safety study that has been done since the 1960s. Bicycle helmets are designed to be light, to allow airflow for cooling, and to work for typical bicycle operational speeds. Motorcycle helmets are designed to handle far higher speeds and greater impacts, to help reduce noise, etc. *ALL* helmets are designed to sacrifice some of their structure and capacity to help when in an impact as a tradeoff to minimize weight and cost: they should always be replaced after an impact. You can hold whatever beliefs you want, but if you don't wear a helmet when riding a bicycle or motorcycle it is evidence that you don't feel you have a brain worth protecting.
