Yup. So far I know that's one of the reasons why the Pentax cameras come out under the name of Samsung. Many koreans don't buy japanese products. I was talking with a korean girl once and she told me that in Korea Samsung is quite unbeatable in photography market.
I was already about asking a question earlier. I know this is a Pentax Discuss Mail List, but what about the Samsung users? Since I am thinking about buying a Samsung GX-20 instead of the Pentax K20D because the hungarian service for the Pentax (and Tamron, Canon, Sigma) is terrible. I can't understand how a company like Pentax could make contract with them. Here's a little story: I had a little incident with my Pentax K10D last 3rd of october, I have a Miranda made 2x and I had a probably faulty Tamron Adaptall adaptor (later I found out it was Ricoh not PK), which worked quite well with the camera but with the 2x it made a little fault in my 1 month old K10D, the aperture moving arm (or what's the name) is stopped at the top and won't goes back. I brought my camera to the service with all the papers the next day (4th of October). About 2 weeks later I called them to ask about the camera. They told me it can't be made under the guarantee so they will send me a letter with the costs. 2 weeks later I called them again because I had no words from them. They told me the same like 2 weeks earlier. So I went to their shop and signed the no-guarantee paper. The costs was 40'000 HUF (that's ~220$). Again no words from them for 2 weeks so time to call... They told me that they are going to send the camera to Germany because they can't fix it there. 2 more weeks and when I called them they told me the price went up to 71'000 HUF (~390$). Almost the half of the camera with kit lens... I told them that it's way too much and I can't understand how did the price going up almost twice to what it was. The girl on the phone told me she will ask her boss. Her boss called me and explained that they have to replace the whole bayonett and shutter (so like almost all the mechanics... LOL?) and the picture processing panel. This was the point when the whole thing became interesting to me so I started to argue with the guy and in the end he said that the panel may not needed to be replaced :D He promised me to call me back in 10 minutes because he is busy at the moment and can't write down my email adress where he could send the contract. 30 minutes later I sent my email adress to him in SMS. Withing 1 minute he called me and was very rude with me and was angry because I can't wait till he calls me and why do I rush him because he's a busy man etc. So we argued a little more :D Anyway at the middle/end of december I received a letter from them what I've to send back signed so they will repair my K10D (what took 1 month to them to send this letter... I don't know). At the begining of January I called them and cancelled the repair (I found an other repair shop who could help me) and they promised to give my K10D back ASAP. 4 weeks later I was finally able to get my unrepaired K10D... So it took almost 4 months and my camera is still damaged (I mean my other K10D :P) and I highly doubt that it was sent to Germany any time... I really believe they just wanted to cheat and get the money from me for something that would be still under the guarantee. Tomorrow I will take it to an other repair shop and wonder what will be their price... And the joke in all they are the only service in Hungary who will repair Pentax stuff under guarantee... Sorry for this little off-topic rant, but as you see I am thinking 5x to buy any Pentax, Tamron, Sigma or Canon product because of this. Samsung has their own service here and not just a contractor, so even if I love Pentax (and I really do :D) I am thinking about to get a Samsung because of this and only this. This is great way how a company can loose a fan... a customer. .timber keith_w wrote: > That site is Korean.
