Actually, the ability to set aperture from the body, or lack thereof, 
didn't really change with the introduction of digital, did it?

Most AF film bodies could could control the aperture directly from the 
body, but didn't have separate controls for aperture and exposure time. 
You can say exactly the same thing about the digital bodies, as far as I 
can tell.
