I did a 24-hour endurance race once. Nothing like riding a 1-hour shift 
in full leathers in 95-degree head and 90+ humidity :-0

There *were* spectators, amazingly enough. They got in a lot of beer 
drinking from the looks of it. 24 hours allows ample time!
