Thought folks on the list might want to know: I talked to a service rep at California Precision Service (Sacramento-based Pentax authorized service center) about my DA* lens that I gave them for warranty work. The tech checked out the lens with their test equipment and verified the existence of a centering defect. He contacted the Pentax USA folks for repair information, and they told him that (and I quote) "they're the only ones who have the information" and "they're not getting a release from Japan to release any information."
So the lens is going to the factory for service. I could be a conspiracy theorist and say that Pentax in Japan is covering something up. Realistically, I don't think so. The fact is, the lens is quite new. Most likely, Pentax doesn't have service manuals and tech training in place yet to roll out procedures and parts lists to their authorized service centers. I'm more interested to see if they fix/replace the lens or if it comes back untouched with a statement that it is "in spec". Since a qualified service center (and not just me) observed the problem, I'm hoping that they'll repair or replace the lens. I'll keep you posted.... --Mark -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
