One thing I would consider is what you want to use the lens for. For me, wide angles are generally for landscape photography and this introduces an additional issue to consider - the sun... The Pentax SMC coating has always been far better than Sigma at avoiding flare and ghosting and for this reason alone I would strongly consider it.
Don't get me wrong - I have a lot of Sigma glass and many of the EX lenses are great but these particular lenses are going to have a bug hunk of glass catching the sunlight. I think these are both very fine lenses, and neither would be a bad choice but my money would be on the Pentax. Mind you I also buy my Pentax gear from somewhere that give me a free 3 year guarantee which helps.
