I don't think global warming affects the loons in particular. AFAIK, they're flexible in their climate requirements. Acid rain does, however, because it diminish the fish populations that loons feed on. Other environmental hazards that affect them are plastic waste (shopping bags, bubble wrap, etc.), heavy metals (because they're far up in the food chain) and fluctuating water levels. The loons are clumsy on land, and always place their nest in vegetation close to the water line. If the water level drops, they'll be unable to get on and off the nest. This is particularly important here in Norway with all the hydropower regulations, but in some cases even flood protection systems can interfere with the loon's breeding success.
