Cameras from different manufacturers,, or different models from the same 
manufacturer, that use the same sensor can be compared for noise 
characteristics, as well as other imaging characteristics as well.  The 
K10D and the Samsung GX10 which are very closely related and use the 
same sensor reportedly handle certain aspects of the sensor output very 
differently.
