I use the two-hard-drive approach and I'm implementing a DVD "backup-backup" as well. I have my photos on a big-ass internal hard drive and I back them up to an external drive (it's a network drive - slow but good enough for my purposes and I can access it from my laptop anywhere in the house wirelessly). The reason I'm slowly putting everything on DVD as well is for off-site storage - in case of fire or, particularly, lightning. A direct lightning strike could easily fry both hard drives, making backup kind of moot :) This might not be an issue for some people but, Pittsburgh is right on the edge of the Appalachians and we get some wicked thunderstorms here. And I'm not confident enough in the abilities of surge protection gear. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
