Wendy - an answer and an observation for you.

1. I have a Bogen of some variety and it is sturdy and adjusts easily and,
with a ballhead on top it works well.

2. It works best with a LX with a SportFinder finder. Using a monopod is
obviously more awkward than handheld, but in some ways it is even more
awkward than a tripod. With a tripod you can let it go and it stays where
you left it. With a monopod, you dont let go. So it helps to have a very
high viewpoint finder to help you overcome the awkward positions you may
find yourself in. I am not explaining this well, but trust me; you will wind
up taking shots where you are aiming without looking through the viewfinder,
and the SportsFinder lets you at least glance at your composition . . .
[visualize taking a macro picture from the bank of a stream of a flower just
above the water level, about 30 inches below you . . .]

On the other hand, if you are sitting in the spectator section at the
agility trials and merely panning back and forth with the 'pod holding the
camera at eye level, life is better. But you'll still find the high
viewpoint finder a blessing.
