Paul, In low light there really is no comparison in AF performance between the D300 and the Pentax's the D300 is simply massively better. Of course it's also something of a category breaker, offering AF performance that previously was only available on $4k+ Pro bodies, there's nothing in the sub-$2k market that can match the D300's overall AF performance, nothing really comes close except for centre-point only performance where the A700, 40D/50D and E-3 can compete.
IQ on the other hand... And the DA*'s really are gems.
