Boris, I agree that Victorian/Edwardian prose can make for wonderful reading.
If you want more of it, I recommend that you read the literature of that
period. There is plenty of it. For junk novels, you can try Edgar Rice
Burroughs or Edward Bulwer-Lytton (who is famous for the line "It was a dark
and stormy night...."). For science fiction there is H. G. Wells ("The Time
Machine"). No other names come immediately to mind, but the literature of this
period wouldn't be hard to track down.
For more recent literature, I recommend the historical novels of Mary Renault,
whose writing I found delightful.
