Boris, I agree that Victorian/Edwardian prose can make for wonderful
reading. If you want more of it, I recommend that you read the
literature of that period.
I'll second Joe's suggestion. Anthony Trollope wrote more books than
I've read, and I tend to enjoy his writings. When you get through that
stack just do a wiki search for something like "victorian literature" or
some such.
After that, read a little Southern literature for some very colorful
inflections.
H.P. Lovecraft, though not British, and a few years later than Doyle,
wrote some interesting sci-fi/horror. The dialect is bit more refined
than today's, but less formal than what you're looking for. Some of his
writings are available to read online.
