Thanks Bob!
It's the E-1 + Pentax M50/1.4 + Olympus EC14 teleconverter. The
Berries shot was done at about 14-15" distance, IIRC; they're pretty
small things. This combination meters much more accurately than if I
fit the same lens and converter assembly to the L1 body and is easier
to focus accurately, unless I use the L1's Live View. I think I could
find justification for obtaining the Olympus ZD 50mm f/2 Macro after
seeing what this focal length and speed does. It would be a 70/2.8 but
the 50 Macro is sharper wide open than the Pentax M50/1.4 (these
photos were all at f/2 on the lens, f/2.8 effective aperture).
I'd certainly find a trade from Contax film equipment to a Leica M8
worth it, presuming I could afford the balance. Fit that body with a
Summilux-M 35/1.4, Nokton 40/1.4 or Ultron 28/1.9 lens ... should be
very sweet!

The E-1 + Pentax lens seems to be a good combination - what are the
shots like close up?
I was in a Leica shop yesterday and had a look at the Panaleica
25/1.4. Nice lens, but big. They saw me admiring the M8s and we got
into conversation. They have offered to value my Contax/Zeiss kit with
a view to trading in for an M8, which might be worth pursuing.
