Thanks, Cotty. Much appreciated.
I do need the 2,8, and at least around 17mm at the widest and at least 55,
preferably a bit longer, and also IS...
I think I'll do some test shoots to check it more carefully: In some
instances I didn't like what I saw, but it may have had to do with my
shooting.
No, I didn't know you sold your Canon gear. What happened to your
Canon-fitted Pentax 85mm?
I read about the Epson and I've often been thinking I'd find me something
similar to just be able to go out "lightly dressed".
The Epson RD wouldn't really fit me though, but it got me thinking about it
again. Glad to hear you like it and I can see why.
It's true what already has been said a number of times on the list - you
approach the world and shoot differently with different types of cameras.
Having once got started in photography with an all manual Praktica and
primes etc. with some upgrading, I do many times miss that kind of shooting.
Thanks,
Lasse

Would you know of a better lens to replace my EFS 17-55/2,8 USM IS lens?
I'm
not entirely satisfied with it. I haven't really been following new lens
releases lately.)
Plastic and nylon hold no interest for me in lens design.
I would only recommend 'L' glass as its the best Canon do.
Your EFS suggests you have a 1.6 crop-sensor camera like the 40D ?
Tricky.
There's a few cheap jobs:

and yours:

If you don't like the 17-55 then unless you go for an L lens you
probably won't be satisfied with anything else.
Choices:
28-105/4
<http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/lenses/28-105.shtml>
24-70/2.8
<http://www.fredmiranda.com/24-70/>
I had the 24-70 and it was excellent - although not much use on a 1.6
crop body. On a 1.3 crop body it was better as a portrait lens!
Of course the wider L zooms are:
17-40/4
<http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?
product=3&sort=7&thecat=27>
and
16-35/2.8 (used to be 17-35/2.8)

Did you know I sold my Canon gear?
1DmarkII, 24-70/2.8 L, 70-200 2.8 L IS, 2X extender, 580EX flash,
Quantum Turbo, angle finder C.
I'm doing less stills for a while, concentrating on video. We still have
an *ist DS and 18-55, some P and S cameras, and my Epson R-D1 and 3
lenses that I use for snaps :-)

I pretty much agree with everything Rich says.
I have Cosina Voigtlander Heliar 15/4.5, Ultron 28/1.9 and Nokton 50/1.5
lenses. I love this kit.
best,
