Brian: thanks for the compliment. The photo was taken 3 feet away from a
screen with the Gnome desktop, but I hadn't realized where I got the idea
from.
I think my favourite is "Footsteps" by Thrainn Vigfusson - well thought
out and well executed. It looks like the Gnome Desktop logo
(http://www.gnome.org/) except it has one too many toes.....
Cotty: I think you're right. I was concentrating on getting the reflections
on the aluminium right, and the aperture was set to match the output from
the strobe. I couldn't have changed the aperture more than 2 or 3 stops
anyway, because of space and strobe limitiations.
Honourable Mention:

Great idea but for me too much and not enough depth of field. The upper
footprint is trying to be soft but needs more softness, or it's trying
to be sharp and needs more sharpness.
