Courtesy of the Writer's Almanac: It's the birthday of the German poet (Christian Johann) Heinrich Heine, born in Düsseldorf, Prussia (1797). He is most famous for his poems, such as "The Lorelei," which were set to music by Schubert, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Brahms, and other German Romantic composers. He wrote: "People in those old times had convictions; we moderns have only opinions. And it needs more than a mere opinion to erect a Gothic cathedral."
We need fewer opinions and more good photography. Dan -- Daniel J.
