Hi,

There is no such thing as "going backwards" <g>. Good optics are fine
no matter how old the lens may be. Apart from a need to clean or adjust
an old lens, they last indefinitely, and can perform well for years.
Many people on this list, and people who use numerous other brands of
cameras, take great pleasure and pride in using their older lenses.
Sometimes they are superior optically to similar newer lenses, but in
any case, they have their own, unique finger print and qualities. There
are some Pentax and Leica users that have the newest cameras and use
forty - fifty year old lenses with great results.

I'd like to share a little anecdote with you. I posted a photo to the
Leica list to get some comments and criticism. One fellow remarked how
great the Leica glass was since he could make out some very fine detail
in the background. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I used a 35
year old, 50mm/1.4 Pentax Super Takumar (Not even a multicoated lens) at
a very wide aperture (1.4 or 2.0) to make the shot. It was very
satisfying to note that an "outdated" $20.00 lens could compete quite
well with a new, $1,000.00 Leica lens.
