You're okay if you have the gumption to decide something's too sharp. Way to
show some aesthetic discrimination. <s>

Rather than buy a soft filter, try this--just take an ordinary filter and a
laundry marker and make a bunch of little polka dots on the filter with the
laundry marker. More dots, softer, fewer dots, sharper. If you don't like
what you've done, scrape 'em off and try again.

And you always have that sharp lens underneath for when you go out and do
landscapes--better than a nasty old zoom any day. <g>
