Keith - Joe McAllister has recommended the z10... it sounds spectacular
and within my budget...

I know 11x17 50mg 300 dpi is printing talk -- its a matter of being able
to interpolate up to that... 300 dpi = 300ppi
SOunds pretty neat to me... and B&Hhas one for $124...
I'm going there tomorrow to buy printer ink and paper anyway

The Optios won't. They record at 2304 X 1728 pixels at best, and that
ends up being a jpeg (Exif 2.2)

All the small Optio series, thru S6 at least, have the same sensor,

Can't help you there. The specs you quoted are printing specs, not
photographic terms. but ask any camera store how large a print can you
make from a good 6 MP CCD sensor. The Pentax lens is a beaut and
well-corrected, and the physical size of the camera mean nothing. It's
the sensor size and pixel count!
want something I can carry with me for quick grab stuff without
taking my more expensive gear every time I go out.
