Keith - Joe McAllister has recommended the z10... it sounds spectacular and within my budget...

7x optical zoom and up to 3200 ISO... " The Pentax Optio Z10 is a small, compact digital camera <http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews_pentax_optio_z10.php#> with a twist - despite being the same size as a pack of playing cards, it features a 7x optical zoom lens equivalent to 38-266mm. Furthermore the lens is internal and doesn't extend from the camera, protected by a plastic screen and a sliding lens cover. The Pentax Z10 has an 8 megapixel sensor, digital shake reduction mode for both still pictures and video, a 2.5 inch LCD monitor <http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews_pentax_optio_z10.php#>, ISO 64-3200 and Face Recognition. A 7x zoom camera is something of a departure from the norm for Pentax, who usually specialise in more conservative 3x zoom models. Have they bitten off more than they can chew with the Z10? Mark Goldstein reviewed the Pentax Optio Z10 to find out."

I know 11x17 50mg 300 dpi is printing talk -- its a matter of being able to interpolate up to that... 300 dpi = 300ppi

SOunds pretty neat to me... and B&Hhas one for $124...
I'm going there tomorrow to buy printer ink and paper anyway

I got a little bit of money for my birthday.... I very much liked the Optio Bill Robb had at GFM - I want a used one cheap...

Beyond one of you selling it to me...

Do any of these point and shoots shoot raw?

The Optios won't. They record at 2304 X 1728 pixels at best, and that ends up being a jpeg (Exif 2.2)
The fastest setting is ASA (ISO) 200.

Which has the largest sensor?

All the small Optio series, thru S6 at least, have the same sensor, 1/2.5".

Can I just hook it up to my computer to load?

Yes.

Can I use my Canon Zoom browser to load stuff?

Recommendations for one for no more than $150.... ?

The usual asking price for one today is right around that level.

I'd like to be able to pull images out of it big enough for submitting stuff to stock (their min requirement is 11 x 17 at 300 ppi and at
least 50 mgs)

Can't help you there. The specs you quoted are printing specs, not photographic terms. but ask any camera store how large a print can you make from a good 6 MP CCD sensor. The Pentax lens is a beaut and well-corrected, and the physical size of the camera mean nothing. It's the sensor size and pixel count!

want something I can carry with me for quick grab stuff without taking my more expensive gear every time I go out.
