That's very interesting to read and see, Godfrey. Would you mind
photographing the G1 next to the E-1?

I'll do that when I get back from the post office, Bob.

What is the EVF like, compared to a proper viewfinder?

There's no mistaking that it's an EVF ... you're looking at a video image rather than an optical image ... but it's very bright and easy to see, the resolution is 1.4Mpixel and the refresh is 60hz so it appears nearly as sharp as a good computer monitor. I find it very easy to focus with, manually, particularly with the MF Assist magnification function. It does not have that crisp feel of a 'live optical view', however. In very low light, it gets noisy and lag develops, due to the refresh, where with the optical viewfinder things just get too dark to see.

Some will probably hate it. I find its advantages outweigh the disadvantages ... I have felt that way since working with EVFs in the Sony F707 starting in 2002, but until the G1 the technology was too low rez and too slow to truly compete. With this camera, the EVF is much better at doing what I want than what I see in most SLRs up to the mid-line: allowing me to focus accurately and see the scene well for framing, as well as supplying metering/control information/framing tools via overlays if I want them.
