My experience is that you need to set the Epson printer driver to a paper type that is similar to the type of paper you're printing on. If the paper is a heavy matte, use the setting for Epson Premium Matte paper. If it's gloss/semi-gloss, pick a paper that's close to that (Epson premium glossy, premium semi-matte, whatever the heck they're calling their papers these days). The documentation that came with the ICC profiles may tell you which paper setting to use in the driver. The paper settings basically control what kind of black ink (glossy/not glossy) the printer uses, and how much ink it sprays onto the paper. The ICC profile will do the fine-tuning of colors and curves required by the specific paper. So, in short, read the directions.
